Quiet and peaceful environment a chance to unwind.

A lovely setting that holds fabulous memories for us as a family, our eldest son and his wife held their wedding reception here and our family took over all the rooms for the whole long weekend. when our second son was married in Kent even though we had to travel to the church and reception we took over again and the family felt totally "at home".

Wish there was still a night service, as we travel a long way and my husband often flies in to Gatwick or Heathrow it was previously lovely to order drinks or a tray on arrival irrespective of the time.We find the dining room far less welcoming these days.

  • Older travelers

The staff were friendly and attentive. The bedroom had a larger than average tv with Freesat. The discounted rate was very reasonable.

A couple of minor niggles regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the bathroom.

  • Older travelers

Lovely building, attractively furnished, very hospitable, good food, ideally located.

The room, although nicely decorated was on the small side and the bed was uncomfortable, being too small and a bit on the hard side. Bathroom compact and bijou.

Nothing. The Room (No4) was gloomy with a solitary ceiling light with ecomony bulb/no bedside reading light. Asked for quiet room but woken by boiler noise and pipe hammer in the central heating at 5.30am. Waited fifteen minutes to order breakfast and had to find the kitchen to find service. Breakfast awful:sausage heated from previous day still cold in the middle, tinned mushrooms tepid bacon over cooked along with a greasy fried egg. Nice brown toast.

  • Single

Comfortable, with good sized rooms in an historic hotel and a pleasant rural environment

  • Older travelers

Charm, spacious rooms, quiet yet convenient location, friendly helpfull staff

Very nice breakfast accept for the bacon & saugage being over cooked on each occassion though this would not put us off using the hotel in the future. It did put us off using the resturant for other meals

  • Older travelers

the lay out of rooms, the staff were friendly and accomodating. Liked the fact that their was a lake nearby,

    the shower pressure

  • Group of friends

Really nice quiet hotel, only 5 mins drive from Canterbury. Nice food and nice staff. Rooms were large and very comfortable and large LCD TV with freesat was an added bonus. Evening meal and breakfast were both really good. Great value for money.

the grounds, the breakfast, and the accommodation

  • Couple

It's a pleasent hotel, lovely quirky building. The grounds are lovely, the rooms are cosy and well kept. I would definitely recommend a weekend stay here.

Only complaint, although the rooms are clean there is a bit of a damp smell.

  • Couple

hotel staff not very friendly, hot water runs out 3 minutes of shower , had to wait for another 15 minutes for the hot water.

Howfield Manor is an impressive hotel just off the a28 Canterbury to Ashford Road and is set in wonderful well cared for extensive gardens. If considering a visit ot Canterbury and not wanting the expense and noise of a City centre hotel, Howfield Manor is ideal. There is a 40 minute walk down a river to Canterbury (1.2 miles approx), and a taxi cost just £7 (far cheaper and easier than parking in Canterbury. There is a woodyard and other commercial outlets nearby including a Volvo and Mercedes dealership but once in the hotel grounds you have complete tranquility. The double room (No.3) was light and traditionally furnished with an ensuite shower/bathroom. I reported the matress as being in need of replacement, but that said I had a very comfortable night's sleep - but you are aware of the springs 'popping' at first! The hotel staff made a note and no doubt it will be replaced very soon....I Hope. The hotel is a warren of rooms with plenty of space to sit and read or have a drink in the snug bar. The restaurant food looked exceptionally good and diners were all very complimentary. There is a huge car park for over 50 cars and additional grass parking for weddings or conferences. In fact, I would highly recommend this hotel as a wedding venue - the grounds alone make it ideal. The conference room was a modern light and airy room capable of seating about 50 people - not sure of exact capacity. It was a most enjoyable stay with very helpful and attentive staff.

    The matress in room 3.

  • Older travelers

The free wifi and free parking, the location which was very quiet. The staff was great and so were the breakfasts. Very nice hotel.

If you're tall, beware of the low doorways or your head will hurt!

Great overall, lovely setting, all the staff could not be more helpful, especially Guy the night porter who got me and my 2 young children (who woke up far too early) an early breakfast and opened up a the lounge in a nice secluded part of the hotel, whilst other guests could rest..

Just a shower that dribbled water (room 6)
